Adoption Procedure

In order to adopt a dog from BARK you will need to fulfil our basic criteria:

  • NO CHILDREN IN THE HOME UNDER 5 YEARS OLD (we may specify older or no children for some of our dogs)
  • ALL ANIMALS IN THE HOME MUST BE NEUTERED (this applies to both dogs and cats)
  • THE DOG WILL NOT BE LEFT MORE THAN 5-6 HOURS AT A TIME MAXIMUM (less for puppies and young dogs)
  • THE PROPERTY MUST HAVE A SECURELY FENCED GARDEN (min height 5ft incl gates no unwired hedges, holes or gaps)
  • RENTED PROPERTIES MUST HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION FOR PETS FROM LANDLORD
  • YOU MUST BE AGED 21 YEARS OR OVER.

If you meet these requirements then please contact us to discuss an application to view any suitable dogs (or cats!) we have in the rescue. RESERVATIONS CAN ONLY BE MADE IN PERSON AT THE RESCUE. We match opposite sexes for the most successful combinations so for example if you have a neutered male already we would match with a spayed female. Once you (and your existing dog) have met the right match you can reserve for a small deposit. We will visit your home within a few days and home check the property. If the home check is successful we ask that you then complete the adoption procedure within one week. The adoption fee is £350. All dogs are neutered before leaving BARK unless their age prevents this. All dogs are microchipped and BARK will explain to the adopters how to register or transfer the chip. The dog will remain the property of BARK throughout its life and cannot be rehomed, passed on or sold to a third party. If for any reason the adopter can no longer keep the dog in the future it must be returned to BARK for rehoming. We provide each of our animals with rescue back up FOR LIFE.
